In my case the mouse worked e'er, the keyboard worked sometimes.  But it was odd---really odd--and later on shuffling in other keyboards, disconnecting everything else on the USB motorcoach, I still had the problem.  I COULD login with the "Disability" betoken with mouse and click keyboard and once logged in could commonly utilise the normal keyboard.  But I could see from the inability keyboard that some keystrokes WERE getting through.  For case if I pressed the SHIFT central I could see that the disability keyboard had seen the keystroke and shifted case.  When the physical keyboard became "asunder" while I was using it I could go to a command window and find the keystrokes were non being seen there but I could open a notepad file and see it was getting the keystrokes.  Bizarro world.  Later reading everything I could discover and trying out solutions which had worked for others I finally tried the solution above.  So far all is well.  This trouble began merely before the Ceremony Edition Windows 10 update came out, and much to my surprised remained after the update.  I suspect I could accept solved this by reinstalling Windows, but with Function 365, Photoshop, and various other programs, many of which require a phone call to the visitor involved to try them to take the reload without accuse, the pain is just too nifty.  I should also add that SFC /scannow found no problems, no Windows trouble detects found whatever issues, disabling my protection programs etc found anything awry.  Cheers for this process.  I hope the trouble does not recur---and I hope Microsoft tracks downwardly and fixes whatver trouble was at work.

Unfortunately later two days of working perfectly I could enter no characters at the sign-in screen using a USB keyboard.  I did log in with the "disability" tap the letter with the mouse keyboard and once logged in past this means the normal USB keyboard worked---so my problem was not solved and I have given up, having exhausted all leads.  I accept three other computers running Windows 10, all on Anniversary Update, and none of them have this problem.

I just ran into this trouble today. Later on a few reboots and googling I stumbled on this thread. Whils I was reading all this thread I tried the onscreen keyboard, and noticed the two Alt keys highlighted blue every bit if they were existence pushed simultaneously. Tried clicking the left Alt, nothing. Clicked the right Alt key, bingo they both turned off. Then hit the first letter of my password, nothing. Tried Caps Lock, hit the first alphabetic character - bingo, it worked. Then I tried the physical keyboard - the side by side 2 letters worked. I striking backspace and nix happened. Then I clicked Caps Lock on the onscreen keyboard and so tried backspace on the physical keyboard and it worked. I was then able to enter my passwprd without a problem on the physical keyboard. Been using for x minutes, no issues. Weird. I hope this helps someone.

My system is a desktop running windows 10 Dwelling 1709.16299.125, this is what worked for me only didn't, it came from COLGEEK at TomsHardware.com.

Shut down the system unplug both USB keyboard and mouse, start system and let it load to logon screen. Plug in your keyboard and expect a few seconds then examination information technology by hitting the spacebar. Then plug in your mouse. As COLGEEK explained, it let windows reload or reset the drivers for those devices.

Here's what didn't work: One time I typed in the password and it booted to the desktop, I lost Keyboard function once again. I close down and started once more. At the logon screen I selected Ease of Access with the mouse and noticed that Filter Keys was on so I shut information technology off and I had keyboard office over again. When I tested it I likewise noticed something else, when you hit the spacebar more than than once information technology invokes the Ease of Access menu. Some how I must of did that while pressing a cardinal to select Filter Keys and didn't notice. Notwithstanding non sure.

Hope this helps someone.

This problem keeps happening and I've been trying to just ignore it, just information technology'a very troublesome, peculiarly when I take a paper or essay to write. Same here. This has happened five times at present, and nothing fixes information technology. I am a CS major, so I know how to fix these problems, simply every time this has resulted in an infinite loop then a broken OS. It has happened again, and rebooting/restoring state/ uninstalling updates/ factory reset/reinstall windows/revert to previous version doesn't work either. Literally nothing works, as my keyboard and mouse failure seems to be a death omen to my PC. If I have to l get dorsum to Best Buy again, I'm asking them to replace my PC with a non-HP, since HP seems to not desire to update itself to ever work with windows. I'thou tired of this **** and these bots respond with "press <insert key here>" when we clearly say our keyboard doesn't work. There is no working solution online. and Microsoft doesn't care since this shady dealing is what brought them on height, and they volition go along to do so as long equally it works.
